Re: Podcasts
I listen to a lot of podcasts. The one that is most relevant to this community is the Legacy Music Hour, where they play and discuss music from the 8-bit and 16-bit video game era. I highly recommend checking it out.
Other podcasts I regularly listen to include, and their genres if you haven't heard of them:

I've never listened to a podcast, simply because listening intently takes both more time and more effort than reading intently.

Yeah, I spend a lot of time commuting and washing dishes, and I make it more enjoyable with podcasts.

Re: Podcasts
I'm just trolling. I'm often amused by the fact that so many people live and breathe podcasts and so many others have no clue what they are or (like me) have never listened to one.
I also spend a lot of time commuting, but it's usually spent listening to audiobook CDs that I get from the library. Mostly I listen to novels (fiction), but I also enjoy biographies and the odd foray into education / non-fiction. My local library has more than 18,000 audiobooks on CD to choose from, so I'm never lacking in variety / choice.

adding a new one to the list: 'The Bone Zone' today's episode had me laughing super hard all by myself. https://soundcloud.com/thebonezone/bone-zone-93-melissa
about an hour so perfect for commuting (nsfw unless headphones)
[EDIT] Mibbers just posted a great short from Pete Holmes (of 'you made it weird' podcast) that I wanna add to this thread: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhko3m7D6UA [/EDIT]

I recently subscribed to VGMpire, the only VGM podcast I know of besides Legacy Music Hour. It focuses on game music (obviously), but spans all video games, not just older ones. So far it's pretty good!

I have a few:
The Phil Vischer Podcast (Christian podcast, but not like the whole fire and brimstone thing. Intelligent and funny conversations ensue.)
Podcast Beyond (IGN Playstation podcast)
The Comedy Button (Same guys from IGN being funny)

Sure! Besides the four I recommended over here, here are some other good options:jonfunk wrote:Schneau: I finally listened to a few LMH podcasts and I have enjoyed them so far. Any particular episodes you would recommend?
- 76: Sports 2 - Who knew sports games had such good music?
- 127: Taito 2 - Lots of good music here.
- 138: Alberto Jose González - I'm partial to this episode not only because AJG made such great music, but also because the first 10 minutes or so of the episode features a discussion of a question I asked.

Re: Podcasts
I doubt if anyone here are jiu jitsu or boxing fans.... however.. this podcast has guests: Ryron & Rener Gracie (BJJ legends) and a skype call with Roy Jones Jr (boxing legend), hosted by Brendan Schaub (UFC Heavyweight) and Bryan Callen (Comedian/Actor). Anyways these guests are excellent in their field and end up focusing on marriage advice, just have a listen.

One of my favourite types of people to listen to are southern usa country types who defy the redneck stereotype and are smart and know what they're talking about. Really great interview, skip to 4:54 to miss the adverts, highly recommended!

Re: Podcasts
Just to resurface this one, I would second the Decode DC podcast for those into American politics. I also listen to a number of Apple/tech podcasts like The Talk Show, and ATP (Accidental Tech Podcast). On a different note, I would also suggest the Podcast History of Our World. Muck Rock is another good one based on freedom of information requests filed in the US. And for a geekier bent, I would suggest up the Incomparable for a panel-style review show/book club/more.

Re: Podcasts
I just started listening to Two Guys on Your Head after hearing it on my local NPR station. It doesn't hurt that it is recorded at the university where I work.
The show is two psychologists discussing human behavior and the brain. Each episode is usually only seven minutes long, so it is easy to get in to.

Re: Podcasts
I came to Rainwave via the Super Marcato Bros Video Game Music Podcast.
I wrote this as an email to a friend recently, but I'll share it here as it's on-topic (she was looking for podcasts, mostly history podcasts):
News:
NPR Hourly News Summary - it is what it says, 5 mins, updated hourly.
NPR Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me - comedy news/quiz, hour, weekly
Politics, if you're following the election:
NPR Politics Podcast - national coverage, mostly of the election
Slate's Political Gabfest - national coverage, does three sections a week, broader coverage than the NPR one
Slate's Trumpcast - Just Trump coverage (very anti-Trump)
History:
Hardcore History, Dan Carlin - super amazing. Long shows, very paint-the-picture style. Only the last 10 or so are free, but there's about 60 in archives. Basically like listening to entire history courses on each topic, like say 20 hours on WWI.
BackStory - just American history. Hour long shows made of vignettes. Pretty "lightweight" most of the time (it's a radio show).
The Memory Palace - just short vignettes on very obscure historical events or topics, or sometimes just slice-of-life stuff from historical times. Great narrator.
Some more so-so history ones to try:
Our Fake History - extremely excitable narrator covers historical myths
History on Fire - a Hardcore History imitator. Narrator has a strong Italian accent and is too apologetic about it. so-so but has promise.
The Maritime History Podcast - the narrator has a kind of hypnotic voice. I listen to one every so often for variety.
Not-so-great history podcasts that you will still see on lists of good ones:
Ben Franklin's World
Stuff you missed in history class
Audio Dramas / radio plays:
EOS 10 - science fiction; two seasons, may get a third
Limetown - thriller/scifi/horror, short, complete
The Message - thriller/scifi/horror, short, complete
Star Trek: Outpost - if you're a Star Trek fan; it's about 80 episodes at this point (so like watching all of TOS or so)

Re: Podcasts
I'll echo the 'Hardcore History' podcast. Been enjoying that immensely. The host also does a current events podcast as well - 'Common Sense with Dan Carlin'. I'm thinking that I'll be shelling out for the full archives of Hardcore History soon, which is about $60-80 in total. But the free stuff is there, and is great.stillnotelf wrote: History:
